Major Preparation Formats
To be well prepared for entry into any of the CSUMB programs, we recommend at least 60 transferable units and the following coursework be completed if you attend a community college:
- All CSU General Education Requirements
- At least three semesters of a foreign language
- A basic computer technology course, including internet use that is the equivalent of BUS 200; CST 101, 102, or 103
The following listed CSUMB programs recommend the described additional coursework for entry into their respective program.
Biology, B.S.
- Area A: Written and Oral Communication, Critical Thinking, 9 units

Area B: Natural Science and Mathematics, 22-32 units
- Chemistry: Complete CAN CHEM Sequence A, entire sequence, 8-10 units
- Biology: Complete CAN BIOL Sequence A, entire sequence, 12 units
- Area B-4 Math: Complete Pre-calculus (CAN MATH 16) and Calculus (either CAN MATH 18 or 30), 6-10 units

Area C: Humanities and Fine Arts (2 different disciplines), 9 units
- C-area should include two semesters in a foreign language to count towards CSUMB's foreign language requirement.

- Area E: Vibrancy: 1 course in personal development theory and 1 activity course, 4 units

If you are attending a Community College with the aspirations of transferring to CSUMB in the near future, please consider contacting one of our professors and discussing how you should best prepare yourself.

- Complete our statistics requirement by taking an Introductory Statistics course at the community college that fulfills your math requirement.
- Complete all or part of the three semesters of foreign language required of transfer students. (101, 102, and 201 series)
- Complete introductory courses in principles of economics, including microeconomics and macroeconomics. (BUS 201 and 202)
- Learn basic computing skills, including Internet use (eg. BUS 200, CST 101, 102 or 103)
- If you intend to minor in anthropology, sociology, psychology or social work, complete the introductory course for those minors.
- If you intend to follow the teaching credential pathway, complete U.S. History (both halves of the sequence), one standard American Government course, and at least one semester of a second language.
